You can...just apply and pay for a California Fish and Game commercial license, then .... buy and maintain a boat and traps, drive to get bait, work from 4 in the AM to after dark in all sorts of weather, fix your boat and traps in whatever port time you have, watch your traps get poached by both 'sport' fishermen and professional poachers, risk your life at times in foul weather, deal with DFG rules and closures, sell for market prices depressed by offshore lobstering (and abuse of Asian and South American divers)...all in all, a fun experience, Jane. Go for it!
As for me, I'll buy my catch from local lobstermen at fair prices.
