I have to say, the only link between my love of tropical trees and scuba diving is probably mangroves. Rhizophora Mangle, Sonneratia alba, buttonwwod, hibiscus, Avicennia marina, Avicennia germinans.... Anyway, Mission Bay San Diego used to have feral Avicennia Marina, although they arrived unintentionally when I boat from New Zealand had their floating seeds stuck into their "butt", and then they found a new home.

Anyway, do you know if any mangroves still exist in any part of California? Do Mangroves help diving conditions considerablty, like like increasing water clarity, and filtering out polutions, like I would assume? Have any of you ever dved in them and saw coral on their prop roots like on the Rhizophra species?
