Much discussion about these pictures on ba_diving a month
or two ago. It was a Basking Shark (plankton filter feeder)
and the consensus was don't worry, enjoy the experience.

I had Orcas that close to my whaler on two days
over Labor Day weekend:

They swam right under the boat (< 3') six different
times, rolling on their sides to check us out. This happened
about 1/2 mile north of Pt. Lobos, and when they
approached us we were drifting in neutral.
