As a guy who does precision measurement as part of his living, I like that idea.
Of course, there's the whole training issue....reading calipers requires a little bit of brain.
And underwater instrumentation is a whole issue in itself.
The tool could take a measurement, log it, and brand a serial number on the lobster if it was legal, and log that serial number with the measurement.
Perhaps a green/red go/no-go light.....
Talk about feature creep.....
