The problem with standard inflator hose fittings is the have a much reduced flow rate as compared to the ones used for the AIR-2 type inflator/second regulators. Thus putting standard inflator fitting inline with the AIR-2 will degrade it's performance.
Thus choosing to use such an adpator is not without implications. Also adding an adaptor and the extra coupling point adds another possible point of failure. In general the best aproach to dive gear is simple is best.
