Only one with a "buddy" which converted me to solo diving: Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne, Australia, 1964. The boat dropped us on a 60 fsw reef. Dropped in with an assigned buddy. No reef at 60. No reef at 80. Started following buddy's exhaust bubbles to ascend. Deeper and darker. At 110 split from the buddy and started heading for the lighter water, bubbles trailing down behind. Buddy finally realized that we were diving in a flood tide: incoming cooler water was plunging below the warmer water, causing our exhaust bubbles to angle down, not up. Freaky. We both made it back to the surface. And I made a decision: I no follow no buddy no more; they follow me or no go. Now only buddy up with daughter or son, no one else. Not even my good friend and diver extraordenaire, John Walker ;-)
