Jesus (a Mexican diver), Chris, why do you post crud like this?

First paragraph only:

The Channel Islands MPAs are a result of an executive order by President Clinton??? I know that Jim Martin has trouble with facts, but c'mon, even he should be able to get a grip on this one. The Channel Islands MPAs were a STATE OF CALIFORNIA initiative. Jim, dude, a state is a little thing and run by a governor... a country is a bigger thing and run by a president.

No-take marine protected areas are an extremist movement?? Let's ratchet up the hype a bit, eh? Actually, this particular extremist movement has a huge amount of marine science behind it. Instead of just reading the RFA/UASC/etc press releases, go read some of the science. The extremism has come on the side of the rec fishing lobbies, who want to take fish anywhere they want anytime they want, and really any size and type they want. Let's ignore the realities of current marine populations and just do whatever we want, right guys?

The Channel Islands MPAs are a great example: somewhere on the order of 15% of the State waters of these islands was closed to fishing, yet these guys are screaming and crying because approx. 85% of the State waters was not enough space for them to find their fish to take. Get real. That's some pretty harsh extremism... still leaving you 85%.

Yes, the coastal monument plan has some stuff needing attention, but c'mon Chris, what's up with printing this kind of crud?
