I would have to concur with Patrick. That it appears to be a green sea turtle. I have never seen one myself in California. Although I have seen them elsewhere.
There is a certain thrill one gets. When a endangered species is experienced up close and personnel. I have had several up close encounters with the American bald eagle. Although I heard they are off the endangered list nowadays. I still get a big thrill when I see them.
