PRESENTATION ON COUNTING ROCKFISH: Mary Yoklavich, Fishery Research Biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service’s (NMFS) Southwest Fisheries Center, will give a presentation on counting rockfish at the University of California’s Bodega Marine Laboratory, Bodega Bay, California on 28 October. The over 52 species of rockfishes (Sebastes complex) along the Pacific Coast are difficult to accurately count. One of the techniques developed by Yoklavich and her colleagues has been using a two-person submarine allowing them to dive to 150 fathoms or more to view these fish close-up in their natural habitats. The Thursday evening presentation begins at 1900 HRS. For more information, call (707) 875-2211 or go to: http://www-bml.ucdavis.edu.
