I've been pretty fortunate to be an Army brat. I was born and raised in Los Angeles (I now live less than one mile from my birthplace)but I also lived in San Francisco for a couple of years, as well as many other places around the U.S and Europe. Some of my best, and worst, dives have been in the Carmel/Monterey area. I have relatives in the Seattle area and have visited there eight times. Unfortunately I never had scuba gear with me during those visits. The PNW is still at the top of my list of places I want to dive.
