Hi Kyle,

Not sure about S.F. Bay or Sacramento, but I wouldn't dive in the places you mention in So. Calif. I've snorkeled in Newport Bay, and it's nothing to write home about -- poor viz, often none-too-healthy water, etc. Some of the folks down here have dived there to plant eelgrass. But it's much better to go to rock reefs nearby in the open ocean in Corona del Mar or Laguna Beach.

I wouldn't be too spooked by your run-in with the leopard shark. They're extremely skittish, and I've never heard of them hurting anyone in any way.
