LA JOLLA – Contamination warning signs were posted Thursday at La Jolla Cove following a sewage spill.

An estimated 300 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that empties to the beach at La Jolla Cove between 1 and 2 Thursday afternoon, said San Diego County Environmental Health spokesman Clay Clifton.

The spill, which was caused by a blockage in a restaurant's sewer line in the 1200 block of Coast Boulevard, was contained by city water crews about 2 p.m., he said.

Contamination warning signs posted at several access points to La Jolla Cove will remain in place until samples confirm the ocean water is safe for recreational use, according to Clifton.
