No strobe, just the itty-bitty flash built into the camera. Probably not much use beyond 3 or 4 feet, but great for macro shots. The housing I use has a subsantial, built-in diffuser (that can be pulled out if desired) which probably keeps the backscatter about as low as it can be for a non-strobe setup. The housing is made by Canon specifically for this camera. Though Canon is not known as a housing producer, I decided to trust Japanese ingenuity (I specifically looked on the box to confirm it was Made in Japan). Amazingly, all functions of the camera are available via controls on the housing; clever mechanical gizmos manage to slide, spin, twist, and poke every single camera control.

Some may see this as a downside: the housing is only rated to 40m (130ft) max. depth; as a new diver, that's A-OK.
