I've discussed Eric's other maps with him. If he made this plot like the one at Ship Rock, he did it by scanning in a NOAA chart and then he processed it using a program he wrote in Mathematica. Part of the processing is to manually "click in" thousands of points along the contour lines to convert the raster data to vector data. It's very cool, but only as accurate as the NOAA base chart and the clicking process.

Someone should hurry up and sponsor a nice multi-beam survey of Ship Rock, Matterhorn, and all of the other cool areas that I want data for ;-)
