This link shows how the water temperature varies with the coastal features of so cal. The colder waters of the California current are deflected around Point Conception and form the California countercurrent in an eddy in the California bight. This provides a "warm" (its relative, you know) eddy on a regional scale. The circulation pattern starts around San Diego and goes north, cooling along the way until rejoining the California current once again near Point Conception.
