I used a tech backplate and wing for several years and still do when I dive doubles. However I prefer an old fashioned backpack to the tech backplate for single tanks. I use a oxycheq 18 lb. wing with it when I want a BC. This works much better for me than a tech backplate for a single tank. I like the fact that it works well without a crotch strap, so I can wear a regular wieght belt. I also somtimes like a low lift hardpack jacket BC I have better than a backplate and wings for a single tank.
If you choose the tech backplate I would avoid Halcyon gear and go with other manufacurers such as Dive-Rite, Oxycheq, Deep Sea Supply. All provide high quality gear, with much better customer service at a much better price.
