The G.E. always has a few poles and gaf hooks, so even if there were no game bags or spearpoles (or dive gear), there would be cause to search the boat. PLUS the DFG also enforces all marine collection (purple hydrocoral and kelp as examples), so just dive gear would be enough to warrant a search.
I've always found the DFG wardens to be very cordial and pleasant. We should welcome enforcement of the laws and regs -they are for our benefit whether we're photographers, hunters, or sightseers.
