Sounds like a great trip! It's surprising that you ended up with OK conditions at Anacapa. I added some annotation to a satellite image that was linked to the BBS a few days ago. The image was taken on Jan 12th, basically the day after the rain stopped. An annotated crop of the image can be found here:

Just scroll down the page to the thumbnails. You can see that Anacapa is completely engulfed in the sediment plume coming from the Santa Clara River; at that time Santa Rosa was still in the clear. Your experience at Anacapa seems to indicate that either 1) the suspended sediment settles out pretty fast, and/or 2) the sediment travels in the shallower current layers and doesn't affect deeper water quite as much.
