The lens works best with the close up kit when the lens aperature is set at f16 or f22 - or somewhere in between. Set the distance at infinity.
I am not familiar with the GN of the Substrobe 200 but if it has TTL, TTL will usually work well. When using TTL, keep in mind that the light meter in the Nikonos V is lower center weighted.
If the strobe does not have TTL the best way to get proper exposure is to bracket by varying strobe to subject distance. Usually placing the strobe about a foot away from the framer works, but the exact distance will depend on the reflectiveness of the subject and the GN of the strobe.
