I didn't realize that there were so many different kinds of kelpfish. All of the descriptions in Coastal Fish ID say that the different varieties change "color and markings to camouflage with surroundings." I am inclined toward the spotted kelpfish that Matt suggested. One of the reasons that I lean against the island kelpfish is that the behavior of this fish and several of his brothers was a little different than the Island Kelpfish that inhabit Catalina - this fish seemed braver and more confident in his camouflage. The island kelpfish won't usually sit in a framer. But...I'm not certain.
