Poor dude! I saw the same thing happen years ago with a guy who was using a CLAM guage instead of a bug guage. He had a real hard time finding any legals. It didn't take us long to figure it out, especially when he brought up one near 4 pounds that he said was barely legal.
I guess on the bright side, he's got 2 years of practice grabbing them. He should be a pro by now.
Sounds like you guys had a nice trip, weather excluded.
