Why would the dry gloves be the culprit?

Why would the dry gloves be the culprit? Some sort
of gloves are required in Monterey for normal humans,
and the dry gloves are generally reputed to have
more dexterity than neoprene gloves. They certainly
aren't worse for dexterity.
