Mike sounds like someone who has some anti authority sentiments. He would be an interesting person to share a coffee with. Me I get along with all of the branches of law enforcement. It makes life easier.

I attend a lot of lectures at the Cabrillo Aquarium (no surprise) One of the Speakers last year was the CG. They were posed the question of jurisdiction. According to them their jurisdiction includes your boat. The officer said that they were very careful to make sure that they were clear that they can "Inspect" any vessel. They could not search the vessel. This means, according to the officer, that the bilge or compartments that were associated with hull integrity can be inspected. They could not search personal spaces. He added that if they happened on an illegal item in the process that the whole game changed.

The FG officers I have talked to have a similar set of, but different rules.
