SANTA ROSA, Calif. Game wardens confiscated 167 abalone and issued 92 citations at weekend checkpoints along the Sonoma and Mendocino coasts.
The state Department of Fish and Game says low tides brought out a large number of abalone divers.

The checkpoints are part of a state effort to protect the abalone population.

The abalone take limit is three a day.
