A very interesting article indeed as i am in the process of researching the situation of HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow, Scotland where a German Sub sank her at anchor in WW2 taking 833 sailors to the bottom. Having dived Scapa Flow many times, this subject always comes up in conversation and especially the remaining fuel oil on her which has been leaking to the surface for many years (a similar situation as The Arizona if the tanks ruptured ), I knew a marine contractor had been approached to remove some oil off her and this has indeed happened over the last few years however the MOD has now taken over the task and the process is ongoing.
