As I said, my husband is just the AI for the dive shop, when a student does a giant stride in they are supposed to hold weight belts, but they don't always. The student stays at the surface and the AI has to go fetch the weight belt. It happens at least once a weekend trip. It would be nice if the dive shop gave lift bags to everyone assisting but they don't.

No, he doesn't need all that lift but it is the BC he liked the best for other reasons so he bought it.
Yes, most OW students are overweighted. And it is always the people with NO WAIST that lose their belts! Wearing a 7mm 2-piece suit means at least 20 lbs of lead, and someone with a bit too much around the middle means even more. Skinny people rarely lose belts and if they do it isn't heavy.
