I use an old style Halcyon 10 watt HID canister light as my primary. It gives me two pounds of ditchable weight (as if I ditching 2# would help), a place to tuck my seven foot hose and because my non-HID buddies call it an artificial Sun during our night dives. My backup is an Underwater Kinetics SL4. It's bright, fits nicely on my right chest harness D-ring and like my primary has a four hour+ burn time. It's also a lot cheaper than the Halcyon Scout, doesn't have the leakage history of it and doesn't turn itself on when the pressure increases without me knowing it. I see many divers with Scouts or their equivilents swimming along with their backup light on, shining toward the divers fins without their knowledge.
