We were able to get out this weekend and did two trips to Buchannan's Reef off of Palos Verdes. Visibility was very poor, only 5-10 feet, so I took lots of macro shots.

Brown cup coral (Paracythis stearnsi)

Hudson's dorid (Acathodoris hudsoni)

Octacoral (Octacoral rudyi)

Close up of Giant spined sea star (Pisaster giganticus)

Blackeye goby (Coryphopterus nicholsi)

This isn't the best picture, but shows a sea cucumber (Parastichopus parvimensis) tasting a nudibranch (Triopha catalinae). In slow motion, I watched the cuc slide up onto the nudibranch and then recoil as the nudi pulled itself away.

Rated XXX! A little foreplay. These nudibranch are hermaphrodites. The sexual apparati are located on the right side (see arrow). In order to mate, the two must be head to tail. I ran out of bottom time before they got down to business.

"I'll be seeing you." Giant Keyhole limpets (Megathura crenulata)

Olympus c5050/PT-015 with dual DS-125 strobes
