You guys using these lights as backups have most likely not done very deep dives with them.

If you do you'll find that crush badly, there cheap plastic lights. Also the littile switch on the front doesn't like to work very well a depth, I suspect because the light itself gets badly deformed at depth the swithch can't make contact.

I've also seen the light flood through the switch at depth.

The old scout lights can take a little time to "figure" out, but it's really not that hard, and once you do you can't beat them.

There's also some good alternatives to the scout and the newer scouts don't have the same "issues" the old scout did.

But there not cheap, and I suspect that's really the issue here.
You get what you pay for though..
