What I really found interesting is the feeling of panic the photo of all of the boat traffic evoked. I'm glad that wasn't while you were in the water. At Catalina yesterday the boat traffic was nothing short of menacing. At Little Geiger I ducked under a rock because someone was driving overhead and I was afraid an anchor was going to drop (I later found out that it had been the LA lifeguards - totally disrespecting a dive flag again). The DM was on the bow with a bull horn trying to keep boats away from divers - with little to no success. It is nuts. Lack of respect by boaters of a dive flag is one of the greatest threats that I feel toward my life as a diver now days - and the Coast Guard does nothing to protect us.
