Natural gas consumption has risen dramatically in the past ten years as new gas turbin-fired electrical plants are built and we continue to unreasonably fear nuclear power sources. Producers are just satisfying the market demand. Now if we just cut the demand, then we wouldn't need or get this port.

Its not any mass conspiracy - just mass consumption. And WE are to blame. Turn up your thermostats in summer / down in winter, reduce wattage in lighting, replace old inefficient electrical motors, walk or bike more, buy a smaller car and plan your trips, waste nothing as everything takes energy to produce and eliminating waste has teh highest return of any practice. Simple LITTLE things consolidate to make a BIG difference.

But we stupidly go along, consuming more and failing to educate our children on conservation of precious resources. If you personally do, great, but what have you done to encourage others lately?

Don't wait for government...it will ultimately be a misdirected wrong program interlaced with too much regulation, ergo inefficiency. Start with that light switch: turn it off.
