I learned of a disheartening incident that occurred last week in the Landing Cove at Anacapa.

A group of oriental divers, apparently unaware of the reserve nature of the cove, dived the area with spearguns and “took” a half-dozen large, male sheephead. They were caught and cited – I believe gear was confiscated. The folks who run the trice-weekly U/W video presentation are mad as hell as their star performers were taken out in the onslaught, and the remaining population is very chary of any creature blowing bubbles, whether they are holding a camera or a speargun.

It appears that this group really had no knowledge of the reserve status of the Landing Cove, but still, the loss is noticeable to all, as Dick J. has stated.
