The float is rigged legally |

The small egg shaped float is part of the legal rig. It is meant to hold up the three small lines that connect the main hoop to the surface line. When the hoop net is baited, the small float holds the small lines out of the way so that a lobster or grab will not be flipped out of the net when the user pulls it up quickly. The rings on the net look very rusty, so it is possible it has been in the water for a period of time.
