The cleanser works because it is abrasive and removes the mold release compound. Pumice hand cleaners and old-fashioned powdered abrasive tooth past works as well. When you scrub it do both the glass and the rubber skirt.
For defog I use shampoo mixed with water, but I have used spit (better than nothing, maybe Ross' spit works better than mine), kelp (better than spit), an commercial defog (ok to almost worthless depending on the brand). I have used them all and currently prefer shampoo.
