Went for a night dive at Veteran's this past Sat, 8/20.
Water was great and we went down ~10:30pm, ~75 ft.

Lots of good stuff (believe it or not, this was my first time night-diving this site)--octos, crab, flatfish, rockfish, horn sharks, etc, etc.

However, also saw one thing I've NEVER seen before, even in classes.
It was a long, eel-shaped looking fish, less than a foot long. Orange-whitish coloring, tiny pectorals, but what stood out was how it used two long "whiskers" to pick thru the sand, just like a tropical goatfish. They'd bury themselves in the sand tail-first if they were spotted by a light.

Since there were tons of these guys around, i'm assuming they're fairly common. i guess i've just never had the opportunity to run into one before.

Anyone got an id??? i'm SO interested to know!!!

(because they're colored like rockfish, i assume they stay down in the canyon at day, and migrate into shallower waters to feed at night? any sense to that?)

(Sorry, no picture).
