Learn to use the white balance. Lego Pacific uses a wrist slate to adjust white balance and shoots without a strobe. He gets very nice results. You can do the same, especially in Hawaii. You might have to increase the ISO speed a bit to ASA 200 or 400.
You should practice with your camera in the housing around the house or backyard before you dive with it. That way you will spend more time taking good pictures instead of fiddling with the camera.
