Dear Chris:

Thank you for sending the photo of the sculpin from San Nicholas Island. I always
enjoy trying to identify fishes that may be unique.

Your fish is a juvenile cabezon, Scorpaenichthy marmoratus. Please note the large
cirri over the eyes and the cirri between the nostrils; also your fish lacks the rows of scales below the dorsal fin.

I hope to see more fishes from you in the future.
