I would be honored and excited to be the one introducing new divers to one of the local sites I am experienced with ... I would do everything I could to ensure the new divers had a positive experience and that my enthusiasm would "rub off" ... you dont need to take an advanced class to beach dive if already certified. I think you were being very responsible in seeking the assistance of a guide. Please don't let your negative experience spoil your perceptions of beach diving ... its a wonderful thing we have here in California ... try finding another experienced guide; if he or she seems enthusiastic, you likely have a good one
