Dr. Andreas Rechnitzer passed away last week in San Diego. His passing marks the loss of one of the true pioneers of both scientific and recreational scuba diving. Wether he was leading the Trieste program to the bottom of the Marianas Trench or working at Scripps Institute to develop the first scientific dive training program, Dr. Rechnitzer was truly one of diving's most important figures. On the local level, Dr. Rechnitzer was influential with the LA County Program during both it's development and it's heyday on a variety of levels. He will be missed. His type always is.
