To save money, you might want to do it yourself. Several thousand is a hobby that could keep you busy in your spare time for months.

I had this model for years until I upgraded to the coolscan 5000 (about 1,000). Scanning can be relaxing and fun believe it or not. You might put on a few extra pounds though from sitting so much.
