I had it worse.

I had about 5 thousand med format and 4x5 chromes that I needed to put on the internet during the dotcom wizbang era. The thing was that the cost to drum scan them was nearly $60 each. So I had one of the local high end houses dupe them all to 35mm. Then had them converted to standard photo CD.

Yea this is not the best solution, but they turned out OK. However I did use the mid quality photo CD. They had to be converted from Kodaks YCC format, but that was easy with photoshop scripting.
