Hello,

I spent 2 years in Costa RIca. Puntarenas is a port town. I haven't been there in over 2 years, but at the time, there was no diving there. The diving that I am aware of is off of Guanacaste, which is too far north of Puntarenas, and on the other side of a peninsula.

In the time since I was there, they have started a dive operation in Quepos, which is south of there (again too far for a one day trip) and there is an established dive operation in Drake Bay, in the southwest part of the country. (also too far.)

CR is a small country, but only about 18% of the roads are paved, and it isn't easy or convenient to get anywhere in a short period of time.

You might try a search engine "Dive Puntarenas" and see if any day excursions come up. It is the Pacific, so the viz there isn't great. Good luck! Or.. as they say in Costa Rica..Pura Vida! :)

Hilary
