I just wanted to throw in my two cents worth. I went through the CCD research diver training program several years ago. It is informative and I learned so much. It is a great way to meet others with similar interests, to learn about the marine environment, and to participate in proactive projects that study our local marine environment.

I took knowledge and observational skills away from that program that have benefitted me greatly in all of my diving activities, trip reports, etc. There is formal classroom training, informal exposure to ideas and concepts from the scientific community, and many CCD related projects that you can participate in after you have completed the class.

I can't recommend it enough.
