Was out at Leo on 9/11. Swam out on surface to start of kelp. Descent was very murky, and got progressively darker. However, once we got to the bottom, it cleared up to maybe 10' vis. Swam out under kelp past the beds, and the water went from brown to blue, with about 20' visibility at a band of diagonal type rocks which seem to stretch east and west for quite a way. Rocks were covered with urchins, starfish and 12-14"sea cucumbers. Was a very enjoyable dive even though the water got down to about 55 degrees at around 35 feet. Got in the middle of a good sized school of senorita fish which circled us for a few minutes while we kneeled on the bottom watching them. Also had a sea lion checking us out near the surface, and saw a good sized spider crab on the bottom swim back. Really great experience for my first dive w/o a divemaster or instructor.
