the most likely scenario is that fish was brought to the surface by hook and line where it was injured somehow by the boat. i agree that they do not swim at the surface, so prop strikes would be the least likely threat the the giants..

if fishing were not allowed in their territory, such dangerous encounters would be extremely rare. In time, that fish may very well succumb to infection.

i maintain that the aggregate colony of Giants at Itialian Gardens are one of the most IMPORTANT diving assets in the entire Southern California Bight!
