I often wonder about the correct course of action to help injured sea animals. I know for people you can actually do more damage and cause bleeding by taking a knife etc. out- at least I remember that being somewhere in my first aid class. But since fish can get caught up on kelp, etc and are cold blooded I don't know if they pump blood from wounds like people do. In any case, if I were there I would take down the name and fishing liscense (sometimes written on the side of the boat) and at the very least make a huge production of calling fish and game very loudly from deck on a cell phone - whether it had a signal or not- and then I would tell them to hold it right there since someone is on the way- that would be the fastest way to get them to leave quickly.
