I'm another filmosaurus like Elaine, but the cost of the computer
is only a fraction of the total cost of a top-end digital camera
system (or film system). And if you shoot film, you end up
buying the computer AND a good slide scanner.

The system costs for digital vs. film are about the same. What
keeps me from going digital is that I've ALREADY spent the money
once. No sense spending it again. But if I were starting out
new, I'd go digital. It's been really impressive to watch how
fast new digital photographers improve because of the quick
feedback. I've got one buddy who bought his first camera (not
first UW, camera, but first ever camera) in November. He has
a picture in a major dive manufacturer's catalog that will be
out for DEMA.
