Bob,

I have taken hard lake boats that size but with 40 hp engines from Marina del Rey to Santa Barbara Island, 40 miles out driving all at night......

Catalina on your boat is no problem...guys do it on jetskis....I would do just as you do, camp on some secluded beach....just make sure you are above the mean high tide line....and make sure you have a radio/cell phone with you at all times as well as people know your boat travel plan. Not to mention a bailout jug and a floor air pump and patch kit......it is only prudent.....

Keep a small box on board with some emergency crap like a water solar distillation still and some fishing gear.......you will be fine.....

The lobster thing sounds like fun.....
