The problem with scuba diving in Australia is that unless you take a live-aboard, you are going to be in for a really long boat ride to get out to and back from the reefs.
Also, unless you take a live-aboard, you chances of being left behind are astronomical, compared to anywhere else, including Mexico or Fiji, the other spots that are famous for leaving divers behind.
If you want to spend a lot of money on a scuba trip, like Australia, then Palau makes a lot more sense.
