If you don't feel comfortable driving the boat across the channel, then your best bet is to take it to Catalina Freight Line in Wilmington. (310)549-4400

They are the barge service that takes most anything to the Avalon end of Catalina. The last time I used them, the rates were less than $10 per 100 pounds each way. You will need to plan ahead. Call them about their shipping times. When you get to the island to pick up the boat, you can easily put it in the water right at the freight line landing and go from there. The freight line offices and landing on Catalina is about a mile east of Avalon along Pebbly Beach.
